(0:00) Section 1 (0:02) You will hear a woman phoning to make a theatre booking. (0:07) First you have some time to look at questions 1 to 4 on page 2. (0:32) You will see that there is an example that has been done for you. (0:37) On this occasion only, the conversation relating to this will be played first.
(0:45) Good morning, Cornmarket Theatre. (0:46) Oh, good morning. I'd like to ask about making a booking for the performance of Pirates.
(0:55) The woman would like to make a booking for the performance of Pirates. (1:00) So, Pirates has been written in the space. (1:05) Now we shall begin.
(1:07) You should answer the questions as you listen because you will not hear the recording a second time. (1:14) Listen carefully and answer questions 1 to 4. (1:17) Good morning, Cornmarket Theatre. (1:23) Oh, good morning.
I'd like to ask about making a booking for the performance of Pirates.
(1:29) Yes, of course. What day? (1:31) I'd like to make a booking for the afternoon performance on December the 8th.
(1:36) I'll just check on the computer. (1:39) Good news, you're booking well ahead of time so there are lots of seats available for that performance. (1:44) Great.
(1:45) Now, if I can just start by taking a few details. (1:48) Yes, of course. (1:49) What's your name, please? (1:51) It's Fenella Bittons.
B-I-T-T-E-N-S.
(1:58) Now, can I take a contact number? (2:02) It's 07796 892 326. (2:07) Lovely.
So, how many tickets would you like?
(2:11) Twenty, please. (2:12) So, that's a group booking. (2:14) Does that mean I get a discount? (2:15) Yes.
Are they all for adults?
(2:19) Actually, only three are adults. (2:22) Right, so you get a discount of 10% on those tickets, which makes it £23 per person. (2:29) All the tickets are the same price wherever you sit.
(2:32) And the rest are all under 16. (2:34) OK, so instead of £15 per person, that'll be £12.50. (2:40) Oh, that's good. (2:45) Before you hear the rest of the conversation, (2:47) you have some time to look at questions 5 to 10 on page 2. (3:23) Now listen and answer questions 5 to 10.
(3:29) Would you like to sit in the stalls? (3:32) I'd prefer the circle, if that's possible. (3:36) Well, I can give you 20 more or less together. (3:39) Really nice seats on the middle row.
(3:42) No, I think we'd need to be right at the back, actually. (3:46) That's no problem. There are plenty of seats there.
(3:48) That's good, because we have one child who's a wheelchair user. (3:52) Right. Well, we have very good arrangements for our disabled customers.
(3:57) Well, the main thing is we want to be able to get to the lift easily. (4:01) That won't be any problem. I'll put you in for more or less the whole row.
(4:05) Good. Now, would it be possible to pay for the tickets by credit card? (4:10) No problem. (4:11) Do you want me to send you the tickets or pick them up from the box office at the theatre? (4:17) Parking's so difficult near the theatre in the daytime.
(4:20) Well, we've now got an arrangement that you can pick up tickets in the library. (4:24) That sounds good. (4:26) Fine.
I'll make a note that you'll do that.
(4:29) Great. Now, I read in a brochure that you can also order theatre meals.
(4:34) That's right. With such a large party, (4:37) it's probably a good idea if you order what you want in advance. (4:39) Well, I've got a good idea about what everyone would like.
(4:44) Could you put me through to the cafe? (4:46) Well, if you want, I can take down the order now. (4:49) That'd be great. Thanks.
(4:51) No problem. (4:52) Well, we've got a few children in the group who are vegetarian. (4:57) OK.
I'll make a note of that.
(4:59) And I wanted to check if you do any hot dishes, like pasta, for example. (5:05) I'm afraid not, but we do have pizzas, though.
(5:08) Even better. Let's go for those for all of us. (5:12) Um, cheese and tomato.
(5:13) Fine. And what would everyone like? (5:19) That is the end of Section 1. (5:22) You now have half a minute to check your answers.
