(0:04) You will hear a telephone conversation between a woman who is moving to London and an employee (0:12) of a relocation service. (0:15) First, you have some time to look at questions 1 to 7. (0:58) Now listen carefully and answer questions 1 to 7. (1:06) London Relocation Services, Daniel speaking. How may I help you? (1:11) Good morning.
My family and I are moving to London later this year and I wonder if you can help?
(1:17) Sure. First of all, I'll need to get some personal details. May I take your full name, please? (1:24) It's Anna Woods.
(1:26) Thanks. Where are you moving from? (1:29) Northern Ireland, just outside Belfast, actually. (1:32) Right.
And what's your current address?
(1:36) It's 118 Fordyce Park. I'll spell that for you. It's F-O-R-D-Y-C-E.
And that's in Ballysilham.
(1:50) And what's the postcode? (1:53) It's BT14 9BJ. (1:57) All right.
And could I take a contact phone number?
(2:02) I'll give you my mobile number as you can get me on that any time. It's 078400 51963. (2:14) Great.
Got that. Now, we always like to get a bit more information about the families that
(2:20) we're moving. It helps with the search.
Are you moving for work?
(2:25) Yes. My husband's just got a new job in London. (2:29) And what about you? Do you work? (2:31) Well, I've been working as a teaching assistant recently, (2:35) but I'm actually a qualified nurse and I'd like to get back into that if possible.
(2:40) Right. And do you have any children? (2:43) Yes, a son. So we need to find a school for him.
(2:47) Is it a secondary school you'll be looking for? (2:50) No, he's still in primary school. He's not quite at the secondary level yet. (2:55) Fine.
So let's go on to talk about your requirements for the property.
(3:00) Do you have a preferred location? Is your husband's job in the centre? (3:05) No, it's in East London, but we'd rather live somewhere quieter. (3:10) Sure.
There are some lovely areas in the south.
(3:13) OK, that sounds great. Now, (3:16) my husband doesn't want to spend too long commuting to work every day.
(3:20) So I imagine that ideally he'd like to be not too far from a station then? (3:26) Yes, he drives now, but I guess that's not going to be possible and he's not keen on buses. (3:33) What about you or your son? Do you have any preferences? (3:37) Does your son do any sport, for example? (3:40) He's quite active, so I'm sure he'd love a park nearby to run around in. (3:45) He doesn't do swimming or anything like that.
(3:48) Great. Before you hear the rest of the conversation, (3:55) you have some time to look at questions 8 to 10. Now listen and answer questions 8 to 10.
(4:23) So what sort of property do you have in mind? (4:27) We have friends who live in an amazing flat over there, but as we've always lived in a house, (4:33) I think we'll stick with that. We'd find it hard to adapt to a flat. (4:37) OK.
And size-wise, how many bedrooms would you like?
(4:43) Well, there's just myself, my husband and our son. (4:46) So you definitely need a two-bedroom property. (4:50) But how about having a guest room? I might be able to find a three-bedroom property for you.
(4:56) Yes, that would be ideal. We're sure to have family visiting often. (5:00) All right.
I've made a note of that.
(5:03) Now, are there any other requirements for your new property? (5:06) Hmm. Well, it's not essential, but it'd be handy to have an office for when my husband (5:13) works from home.
It doesn't need to be a big one. I guess it all comes down to budget.
(5:19) Yes.
OK, Anna. Well, I've certainly got enough to be getting on with, and I...
(5:28) That is the end of part one. You now have one minute to check your answers to part one.
