(0:01) IELTS Listening, version 51568. (0:06) You will hear a number of different recordings, and you will have to answer questions on what (0:11) you hear. (0:13) There will be time for you to read the instructions and questions, and you will have a chance (0:18) to check your work.
(0:20) All the recordings will be played once only. (0:25) The test is in four parts. (0:28) Write all your answers in the listening question booklet.
(0:32) At the end of the test, you will be given ten minutes to transfer your answers to an (0:38) answer sheet. (0:41) Now turn to part one on page two of your question booklet. (0:50) Part one.
(0:52) You will hear a telephone conversation between a sales assistant in a camping equipment store (0:56) and a customer who wants to order some items. (1:00) First, you have some time to look at questions one to five. (1:29) Now listen carefully and answer questions one to five.
(1:37) Hello, Northstar Camping Equipment. (1:40) This is Emma. (1:41) Oh, hello.
(1:42) I've been looking through your online catalogue. (1:45) The problem is, um, I haven't got time to come into the store this week. (1:49) Is there any chance you can put some things aside for me? (1:52) Sure.
(1:53) Let me just get an order form. (1:55) OK. (1:57) So, what's your surname, please? (1:59) Greenaway.
(2:00) OK, Mr Greenaway. (2:02) I'll give you an order reference to write down. (2:04) OK.
(2:06) It's a mixture of numbers and letters. (2:09) The reference is 5174XCM. (2:15) Right.
(2:15) Got that. (2:16) So, what were you looking for? (2:19) Well, we're going on a camping holiday. (2:21) Two adults, two children.
(2:23) So, the first thing would be a tent. (2:26) We need something family size. (2:28) And I'd like to have a door at the front and one at the back.
(2:32) OK. (2:32) And anything else? (2:34) We all need sleeping bags as well. (2:37) So, what design do you need? (2:39) Are you going to the mountains? (2:41) Will there be snow? (2:43) Oh, no.
(2:43) We're going to the beach. (2:45) It'll be warm weather. (2:47) OK.
(2:47) So, the design you need is what we call our summer sleeping bag. (2:52) I'll put four aside for you. (2:55) Then we'll also need something to sleep on.
(2:58) Some camp beds, I guess. (3:00) Camp beds, yeah. (3:02) Or these days a lot of people are using, you know, air mattresses that you blow up.
(3:08) That sounds good. (3:10) Easier to pack away. (3:11) And more comfortable.
(3:13) But how do we blow them up? (3:15) You'll need a pump. (3:17) I'll put one in for you. (3:19) OK.
(3:20) Now, what other things are you looking for? (3:24) Well, thinking about the cooking equipment, we need a stove. (3:28) There are all sorts of camping stoves. (3:31) It depends what fuel you want it to run on.
(3:34) There's kerosene, charcoal. (3:37) Oh, that sounds too messy. (3:39) I think we want the fuel to be gas, if possible.
(3:43) No problem. (3:44) They're a bit more expensive than the other options. (3:47) That's OK.
(3:48) Then do you need any pots, a frying pan, anything like that? (3:53) No, we'll bring those from home. (3:55) What we need to think about is water. (3:58) We'll need a large bottle for that.
(4:00) All right. (4:01) And how about knives and forks? (4:04) No, we'll be OK for those. (4:06) But we'll need something to eat off.
(4:08) You know, something unbreakable. (4:10) Metal, maybe. (4:11) Yeah, that's best.
(4:13) So plates, then. (4:15) A set of four in metal. (4:17) Shall I add that to your order? (4:19) Yes, please.
(4:20) They'll last a lifetime. (4:25) Before you hear the rest of the conversation, (4:28) you have some time to look at questions six to ten. (4:56) Now listen and answer questions six to ten.
(5:03) Now, I'm just thinking what else we might need. (5:06) We've got raincoats, but we really need a couple of new torches. (5:10) I'd rather not have plastic.
(5:12) The boys will just break them. (5:13) We've got some good rubber ones. (5:15) They'll be perfect.
(5:17) I'll organise two of those. (5:19) Then, I don't know, do you want some games for your children to play? (5:23) That's not a bad idea. (5:25) Even just a football or something? (5:27) We've already got a ball, let's think.
(5:31) What we really need is something that young kids can use. (5:34) Do you have a baseball set? They'd love that. (5:37) Sure, I'll put one in for you.
(5:39) Any other games? (5:41) No, I think that'll be enough. (5:43) There's lots of things to do up there. (5:46) Where are you going, by the way? (5:47) Up to the Bay of Islands.
(5:49) Oh, that's a lovely region. (5:51) In fact, that reminds me, we need an up-to-date map of the area. (5:56) Do you sell those? Mine is very old.
(5:58) No problem. (5:59) Great. (6:00) Now, I've just thought, is there any chance you can deliver all these things? (6:04) Absolutely.
What's the address?
(6:07) It's 56 Taupo Street. (6:09) I'll spell that for you. T-A-U-P-O.
(6:13) That's in Bayswater, isn't it? (6:15) Yes, that's right. (6:17) And what would the charge be on that? (6:19) The standard charge is $50. (6:22) But hang on, your order will be over $500, (6:27) so you get a discounted delivery charge of only $25.50. (6:31) Great.
Now, my wife and I will still be at work this week,
(6:35) so we won't be at home. (6:39) That is the end of Part 1. (6:42) You now have one minute to check your answers to Part 1.
